Doctor Rauf Amin, 53, is being whipped at the rate of 10-15 lashes a week during a 15-year jail term, imposed for giving a woman morphine to ease her pain following a riding accident, which allegedly turned her into an addict.

On Friday a Saudi rapist, Abdullah Mehnishi, was beheaded. This is sharia law. Abdullah’s execution was the 84th this year in Saudi Arabia. Is such “justice” just? I will not speak to this point. I do however note that 153 people was similarly subjected to sharia in 2007, up from 37 in 2006 after a previous high of 113 in 2000.
It appears to me that even such awfull punishment as is prescribed by sharia, does not make for the reduction or elimination of violent crime.
Sharia does indicate, though, that Muslims are unspeakably evil.
“Ineffably, unspeakably evil” … or “hidebound anachronisms”? I reckon it’s both – and more. Blasphemy laws are as necessary and fitting as wetsuits for fish. Or lobotomies for the religious.
